Water Crossing

With the heavy winter we had and deep snow in the mountains still there will be many stream crossings well into the Summer and Fall.  Remember it does not take much moving water to lift a vehicle up and move it downstream.  When that happens the odds of getting out alive are slim.  Water only needs to be a few inches deep if moving fast enough.  One thing to keep in mind is a stream may not be deep or fast moving early in the morning but by afternoon and early evening with snow melting the steam may be much higher and faster.  So don’t count on getting back across a stream that you crossed earlier in the day.  Around here the main one that catches people off guard is Pole Creek on the Creede side of Stony Pass.
