Highway 550 Cleanup and Stony Pass

On Sunday, June 7th, club members donned their safety vests and gloves to pick up trash on our adopted 2-mile section of Highway 550 near Molas Pass. We had a great turnout, which made short work of the tasks. The usual was found: beer cans and bottles, cigarette butts, plastic water bottles, potato chip bags, etc. Julie found a dollar bill, though it may not have been well enough intact to replace it at the bank.

After highway cleanup, we headed up Stony Pass. There was minimal traffic this early in the season. Though there was still some snow on the north face of the mountains, the drought conditions were evident. There didn’t seem to be as much water running as years past. The roads were very dry and dusty. We stopped at the 12,650’ pass , chatted, and had lunch. It was another beautiful day spent in the mountains.

A huge thank you to all those who participated! Also, thanks to Karin for sharing a couple of photos.
