La Plata Canyon to Columbus Basin and the Notch
We had a great turnout for Sunday’s fun run to the Notch, 12 rigs total. Quite a few of our members had never been up La Plata Canyon and this turned out to be the perfect day for it. We had great weather and the aspens were beginning to show off their fall colors.
The spur road up to Columbus Basin had a lot more overgrowth of willows than what I remember in years past, but it appeared someone has been trimming the brush back. Thank you! We stopped for lunch and an opportunity to check out the mine and equipment.
From there, we headed up to the Notch. Since there was an unattended vehicle parked at the notch taking up valuable turnaround space, we went up in 2 separate groups. The views up there are always amazing. The pictures make the turnaround space appear much larger than it really is!
There wasn’t much traffic and we made a quick ride back down the canyon, picking up some trash along the way. Our club tries to leave these trails better than we found them and we encourage you all to do the same.
Thank you to all who joined us for the day!
