We know it's going to start getting busy in Silverton likely Thursday/Friday due to the 4th of July Holiday.
You don't have to camp or attend the whole time.
If you would like to come in for a day, or whatever works into your schedule, or stay in a hotel - all is great too.
Please remember the San Juan National Forest is in Stage 1 Fire Restrictions.
For those who expressed interest in doing the trails the 1st through the 3rd. Here’s the plan. CAUTION: some trails are still thawing out, so plans may change around some. I will update here on this post if that’s the case.
Again, anyone is welcome to join! You do NOT have to camp with us. If you want to come up for the day, we’d love to have you! Most trails are easy/moderate. I will be running GMRS radios. Make sure to bring food, snacks, water, and jackets.
Here’s the plan: meet July 1st at the Whistlestop in Silverton by 10am. If there are big campers, we’ll go down to Mineral Creek Road to see if we can find some spots or, if we only have smaller tent setups, I have a few dispersed areas in mind. We will drop off trailers, etc. then hit a trail (I’m thinking Picayune/Placer to California Gulch). We will come back to camp for the night if you’re staying.
July 2nd: 9am, we will hit the trails and head to Georgia and Prospect Gulch (both rated 4/10). Make sure to pack lunch and snacks. Depending on how long this takes, and if we have time, we will run Three Basins before heading back to camp.
July 3rd: some pre-pack up at camp if you don’t want to stay longer and then we will head out to Arrastra and the Mayflower Mine. Plan to meet at Whistlestop by 9am again. To allow everyone ample time for travel, etc., this will be the only trail this day.
